When working on arm/hand binding, it’s important to test the ability of the top and bottom to get the rope on in a safe and sustainable manner. With learning comes mistakes and do-overs. Putting a bottom into an unfamiliar position like a TK, Strappado, or arm binder behind their backs should be done cautiously with a plan to release the bottom when something like discomfort or numbness becomes an issue. Having a fast way to release the hands/wrists can create an immediate relief and buy some time to remove rope in a calm, safe pace. I will show how I use the quick release to more-safely train partners’ arms to pull back into positions with a slightly lower risk. Key points:
- When and when NOT to use a quick release knot
- Keeping the knot clear of rope-traffic
- Pacing your bottom after the knot is released
- I will apply the quick release in a pair of harnesses and illustrate how to use it effectively and more safely.
